Uniondale area farmer Lowell E. Gilbert, 79, died at 8:05 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at his residence. In adddition to farming, Mr. Gilbert was engaged in farm ditching. He was a veteran of U.S. Army service during World War II, 1945-46. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Farmers Union, and American Legion Post 111. He was born in Rockcreek Township, Wells County, May 21, 1924, a son of John B. and Reeta Dowty Gilbert. His marriage at Huntington on March 5, 1948 was to Jeanne Hower, who survives. Additional survivors are four sons, John M. of Portland, Robert W. of Bluffton, William H “Bill” of High Ridge, Mo., and Charles L. “Chuck” of Richmond; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Teresa) Carr of Rockford, Ohio, and Mrs. John (Judy M.) Brehob of Greenwood, Ind.; two brothers, Darrell L. of Bluffton and David I. of Middletown; four sisters, Mrs. Dale (Ruth) Arnold of Uniondale, Mrs. Lois Shearer of Huntington, and Mrs. Lester (Joyce) Robert and Mrs. Jerry (Carol) Day, both of Bluffton; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A sister, Janet Cluster, is deceased. Services at 10:30 a.m. Monday will be at Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, where visitation hours will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Otto Dorsh will officiate and burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery with American Legion Post 111 in charge of the military committal service. Memorials to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana."
